Preparing for a mountain trip

Youwaaa, I am preparing to make a mountain trip!

Togethere with there are planned two girls and one man, my old good friend.

What I wish to tell is that taking a girl in such an extremal "activity" helps greatly to know characters of people. In our daily urban life normal man needs to make various social actions in order to be proven for relations with a girl. But in such conditions man (and woman) returns to his natural circumstances where only real human abilities make a sense.

Who will cook, who will carry the heaviest loads, who will plan the way and who will cut the trees for a fire place - any such things immediately begin to restore traditional gender balance. So, if in usual situations we can spend years to know each other, in this variant everything becomes clear much faster.

And it's great any way!

after exploration session

Making a search about various Latin American topics (having decided recently to learn Spanish language somehow) have found recently quite funny site with a slogan "Панама начинается здесь!", as far as I understand it means that Panama begins right there!

hmm, who knows, but the core interest of this site is based on the mixed character of its working personnel. The project really belongs to so called Russian World (Русский Мир), uniting both diasporal and mainland Russians. The site looks to be launched not so long ago. Good job anyway!

Connected to SETI

There is a special site to range Linux distributives news, called Distrowatch.org, which has a funny slogan: "Put the fun back into computing. Use Linux".
In my case the slogan also has a sense - being tired of reading texts, watching various media, rare and occasional long typing, net-surfing and other activities - finally I've decided to connect to a project which brings something positive for human knowledge, thus allowing my computer to be used as the "true computer", exploring Universe for a life.

Why SETI? I guess - thanks to X-files.

Have you ever heard of BOINC projects (one of them is SETI)?

What kind of project would you like to connect, if... ?

For more info you can see this: http://boinc.berkeley.edu

And here is the screenshot of how it looks like on my computer:

Trying to be a bowman

Quite weak bow. And quite weak bowman.
Anyway, it gives true wild feeling of something natural and ancient.
:)
P.S. Also I am teaching myself in the art of making the bows.
Northern Korea and nuclear deterrence

I guess recently claimed Northern Korean project to maintain nuclear deterrence against the USA is neither deterrent nor agressive. It's just some kind of orbital war threat during 1980-s years. Actual work had never been done, but the threat itself was so "evidently" shown, that the government of the USSR was frightened enough to spend money on numerous projects and to begin revising of some strategies.

Read the novels of Ivan Efremov, especially his novel about the planet of Tormans with its totalitarian state.

Sex with Ubuntu: one more time

Ehrrr. Since the issue of Ubuntu 8.04 (April 2008 release) I had no need to make any serious distributive changes. I am not total lamer (I want to hope so), however there were some accumulative problems which I could not solve. Like – installing some soft being unable to delete it (e.g. many problems with Wine applications) etc.

In fact my problems did not look too pessimistic or dangerous. They just looked like as if you clean regularly your cellar, but usually have no wish or possibility to clean dark corners. Slowly, step by step, these corners become more and more dirty. And finally in order to clean the corners I just broke totally all the building:)

So, I’ve deleted my Ubuntu 8.04 (documents were saved) and downloaded Ubuntu 8.10.

This release is still the most stable among the most newest ones of Ubuntu. They say there are some good features which are good for those who like watching films, exploring Internet etc. Multimedia oriented release.

So, I burnt the ISO and made installation.

And then I had this sex.

The thing is that Ubuntu, like any other actual Linux project, provides quite good work of computer hardware without additional search for drivers. Net cards, sound system, screen resolutions – everyting works from the beginning. Comparing with Microsoft Windows installation it always looked much more interesting.

In 8.04 I had to deal somehow only with video card driver (ATI Radeon HD 2600), yet still the system had a decision, I just had to make a pair of clicks.

Not like with 8.10. Video driver is like a Moon, You can see it, you know that Moon exists, but you are unable to touch it.

With no adequate video functionality I have no interest to use such distributive, even if all other soft sets work well (update manager sources also tend to make sex).

Why for the hell I’ve wrtitten so many words?

Cause I’m surprised. In most cases progress means that anything which is made later is made better than something earlier. Very disputable, right? But despite of individual tastes we may agree that Windows Vista is much more capable than Windows 95. Of course, if we speak about the computer soft progress, then we have to deal with numerous so called Release Candidates, These are initially unstable programs, which we use at our own risk. That’s why I’ve downloaded 8.10 (October 2008 release) and not 9.04 RC (this April).

However with 8.10 I see how progress lags behind,

Give me back my video! :)

P.S. Well, I have no choice and begin to install the old kind 8.04.

It works.

P.P.S. Linux is so great, especially when you don’t need to make magic instead of just work.

Having a dream...

Dreaming is one of the most human activities. And I dream too, of course.
However, when I begin to analyze such process I meet final emptiness of many dreams. For example - I want to have a big house. OK. Let's think that I've already gotten it. What else to dream? Job, girl, love, sex, great journeys? Whatever I can dream - it looks too boring to realize. I don't mean that having good sex or visiting far country is senseless, I simply mean that a dream strongly loses its power when I think about After-the-Dream. Finally we all die and all our houses, wives etc will lose any actual sense for us.

And then I feel there are only two Main Dreams that are worth to be:
1. To give a birth to a human being (with some additions like planting the forest)
2. To leave something that will be important in any way for vast number of people - inventions, books, ideas etc.

Anything else?

What should be "strong" dreaming about, what do you think?

Crisis or Capitalism Alone.

There are already countless words which are told and written about the origin, the process and the consequences of current global economic crisis. Now it’s my turn to add an opinion.

There are only two types of growth: intensive and extensive. They are both presented in our life, yet things are going to be in the extensive ways as a rule. Example: when your 1000 soldiers are insufficient to break into enemy lines – then you may try to use 1100 soldiers. Though there is a nonzero probability to use some new technologies instead of wasting more and more powder food.

What do I mean? I mean that capitalism, as the social “way of life”, as the system of economic activity, always tended to conquer markets, to further occupation of any field of activity. In the Medieval times capitalistic economic was very young and little, there were doubts even about the sphericity of the world. That’s why humanity had some centuries of great journeys, great achievements. Angry people could at any moment move to another “clean” land with a wish to build a new life. The USA were established right in this way. Capitalism was growing. However the beginning of 20-th century clearly marked final limitation of any kind of further extensive growth. There were no new islands, no new countries, no new possibilities for the progress free of charge. And then the First World War Occurred, when leading powers fought for redivision of the influence in this limited world. The results were very disputable but the USA came to the sphere of the global political affairs.

However this Great War decided almost nothing, except that in former Russian Empire new social and economic order came to life. This new order was so magnetic for many people that after short time Communism began to look as a real alternative of Capitalism. Though also we should mention that fact that Communist states (Mongolia became the second) were almost excluded from the political and economic relations of other world. This other world just became lesser than it was – and then Great Depression occurred. Communistiс analysts were glad to write about this Crisis as the realization of already predicted (by Marx) death of capitalism. And their words had some grain of truth.

The effect of Great Depression was devastating – millions of homeless and unemployed, crazy inflation etc. But all the things were changed when two persons claimed their own ways to decide the questions: Hitler offered Germans to make a new World Redivision and Roosevelt offered Americans to use some Communistic experience. Later he also decided to play the role in the new World Redivision.

So, the Second World War had its place. What was the result? Almost all of the previous centres of power were destroyed and since the end of 1940-s there were only two centres: Moscow and Washington. And these two centres immediately begin to struggle for influence. However their conflict had one detail that completely changed a situation comparing with any other global confrontation (like French-English one before): both of the enemies had their own plans of Future!

The USSR plan was to run the global limitation by exploring the Space, the US plan was to deter the USSR to make it. Despite the fact of numerous bloody wars between the enemies both of them were good for each other, because when you have an enemy you need to progress.

Finally USSR lost its initial will to open the Space and soon Soviet Empire just disappeared.

Now only Washington, only the USA and only capitalism became the dominant structures of global life.

However the Space remained almost closed while the planet was still limited. 1990-s were the time of creating the virtual economic. When all the traditional markets are divided – you can create completely new goods and push people to buy your goods. Internet with its functions became the face of such period. This virtual economy begin to grow as a soap bubble. One more detail – the Western people had their own way of consumption – when they consume before paying. Credited style of life.

Step by step this system began to crush down. Extensive way of issuing new credits, new money, new artificial needs does not work, while intensive ways are still nowhere to be seen (because capitalism has nobody to compete with). That’s why we have what we have.

And that’s why current crisis can only be overrun when humanity accepts intensive way of life. But I have no idea what it should be. Yet I know very well that I have no wish to live in the conditions of new Medieval times of postnuclear winter as America shows in the films.

I guess that those countless Christians who were (and still are) sad because of the fact that Jesus Christ hadn’t left (officially known) children and didn’t become (at least) the actual ruler of Palestine – they should think about Muhammad. That person had shown clearly what could happen if you speak directly to God and then you decide to establish your own worldly empire. I was about 7-9 years old and was playing with a raft afloat. It was spring and a big melted pool. Spring yet still quite cold weather. Suddenly I lost balance and fell in water. Immediately I jumped up, back to the raft. It was a second or two of complete being in water.
But my clothes remained totally dry!
Kungur photos.
These photos were made in the City of Kungur. I couldn't get an opportunity to visit their famous Ice Cave. But I made long walk over the karstic hills of Kungur.

Fresh sluggy.

Another "classical" karstic sightseeing of Kungur. Near the Cave entrance.

General photo of Kungur. Here you can see the river of Sylva and those karstic hills which contain the Cave.

P.S. I should say that this city gives quite interesting feeling of Russian history. Despite many other small Russian cities, Kungur was lucky to save a lot of old Russian features such as churches (though some of them are still used as modern GULAG prisons), houses and even wood platforms on the river banks where women still wash their family clothes as their foremothers did it long before XXI-th century.

Smena 8 M.

Two CONservative Mistakes

What I wish to discuss is a matter of American conservative ideologies. Mainly - I'ld like to touch Neocon and Paleocon ideals.

1. Neocons: I really believe that moral fanatism in the global strategy of the US doesn't work. They may write tons of books about US mission to defend global democratic values. Yet it shows no sense when actual oil price problems occur.

2. Paleocons: Mr. Buchanan and Co. wrote so many articles about a need to abandon US outer Cold War military bases and prohibition of immigration and aborts. But they simply forget that abscence of externally visible power is a clear mark of inner decline. If you do not have enough number of soldiers who are ready to fight - prohibited aborts won't help much.

As for immigration I wish to say that I am quite agree with a fact that new demographic waves from Latin America and Asia break traditional face of initially "WASP" American social structure and cultural principles. But let's not forget that immigration created the USA! In this case I cannot understand position to restrict immigration from Russia or some other quite European countries (such restrictions are really effective) while US government does almost nothing to stop Asian and Latin tide.

I have found a little tripod for my Smena 8 M!

Thta's great...

as for photos - still the biggest part of the prints isn't good.

Recently I made a long photo session with black-n-white film... but something bad was with the process of developement. all the prints were dead....:(

Of course I know about various process, about google etc.

My mistake....

New photos. Old mistakes.

Ehrrrr...
Kodak ISO 200.

However - a bit better with light and diaphragms, especially when it's close to night. I think so...
Three photos from my third film:
